Default Radiator Flush Help

Hello everyone, first I want to say how much help this forum has been to me. I bought my first Rover this spring and I am addicted. I have been working on things in Discovery 1 Tech Section. I want to flush the radiator, after using the search function I could not find any threads that explain the best way to do this. Any help would be much appreciated, as I am no mechanic by no means.

At it's age, if it's the original radiator, it's worth taking it to a radiator shop for a flush and pressure test.

Agreed, about $75 at indy shop near me, carry in. They boil it out with circulating citric acid, and they can solder up any small leaks. Makes a big difference.

If you get real lucky you can find a shop that will take the tanks off and rod it, boil it out and solder it all back together for 40 bucks!

The best way is what these guys said, but that only takes care of the radiator and not the heater core.
Remove the thermostat, drain the system of coolant, refill with water, turn on the heater and idle the engine for 15 min.
Let cool for 15min, drain.
Repeat.
Use a off the shelf radiator flush product during the first filling with water.
Repeat the fill/idle/drain until all water comes out clean.
Then replace all of your coolant hoses, thermostat and refill with 50/50 pre-mixed coolant.
You can do this either before or after you have your radiator professorially flushed.
Removing the radiator is a easy job but you will need new o-rings for the engine oil cooler and transmission oil cooler lines.

AC o-rings did the trick for me. Just take an old one to Napa and have them match it. About. 50 cents a piece

You can buy a 180F at Auto Zone, etc. Mine works great, runs 180- 183 up to around 55, maybe 187 at 70 mph, in 90F outside.

You can buy most parts for these things at AutoZone, no need to order online unless you have nothing but time and want the absolute best price.
Trevor at RovahFarm for all your new Land Rover Parts and Accessories has it all.
