Default Radiator RockAuto

I got a radiator from RockAuto today & it was a return ( not new ) , it was broken,
I want to exchange it but they have no phone ( on line only )
I tried the online rout , but they say the box cannot be damaged
It was badly damaged when I received it, I took pictures , but they have no provision for this
RockAuto is risky business, for sure
I first heard of them on your site & you all seemed to like them So I went with them
Do yourself a favor & quit recommending them,

I replaced the radiator with the Nielsen unit and it fit great! also replaced dead fans, Water pump, hoses, etc and still the dash showed it was overheating. I finally figured out the gauge is junk. Use a digital infra-red thermometer and check the temps.

The Nielsen unit fit perfectly and worked with no problems. Been in for almost 2 years, plenty of sub-zero temps and a few up around 100 with no issues.

What year is the truck? If it is 1997 or later it will have a OBDII port. Get a OBD dongle and download an app on your phone. For less than $30 you will be infinitely more well informed.

Here is a primer on how to do it...

I just put some black duct tape over mine and that was it. Black doesn't draw as much attention as other colors. I did use my OBDII tool for awile just to make sure but it showed the wild swinging that was on the dash gauge. even after replacing the sensor so my guess is it is in the wiring. 1999 Disco 1 (early 1999)

Default Temp Gauge

Is there a aftermarket gauge that Y’all recommended I could install? Just a reg type that’s better that the original?

Default ECT needs to be stable for ECM to control properly

If the Engine Coolant Temperature swings wildly, then the Engine Control Module will be constantly trying to adjust, and the truck will not run well. If both sensors are swinging, then look for the common point in the wiring. My 96 has a common ground splice inside the wiring bundle at the front of the engine above the water pump. All the black wires meet there from the temperature sensors, as well as the TPS, MAF, and Fuel Temperature sensors. The symptom for me was the ECT signal bounced around whenever the road had a few bumps. I fixed it by disassembling the spice, cleaning all the wire ends, crimping and soldering them all together. Now the ECT signal is steady, even on rough surfaces. The ETM shows the splice as S### on the wiring diagrams.
