radio installation
This thread is great but I'm a little confused about this Metra harness that is being mentioned. I've got a 95 D1 and I'm thinking I need the 70-9400 but earlier in this thread 70-1786 is being mentioned. I'm seeing multiple instances on Amazon etc. that suggest that 70-1786 is for 99-04? Can someone clarify?
My car came with a brand new stereo and speakers but oddly, whoever did the install seems to not have got around to getting this part.

I would say screw the harness I did I just hard wired every
Thing ran new speaker wires to everything and mounted the amp in the cargo box under driver seat but if I had to do it again I would mount it under the passenger side.

70-1786 if you have the amp. 70-9400 is the newer style ISO plug. but I have to agree with AK disco it will cost less and sound better to rewire. it will also teach you a little more about the truck to get in there. There is also a way to retain the stock sub if you really want to however I haven't been in a disco in years so I don't know how much help I can be anymore...
Okay, thanks. I did a bit more investigation. This is annoying because I don't what was/wasn't done by the previous owner.
Here's the current state of things. The stereo is getting power, lights up and runs a demo. Someone has connected the new stereo to some kind of harness. What's left is one antenna cable and the CD plug...then I have this ten pin pink multi-plug (see pics). Is this coming from my amp or the speakers or? The wires are solid all solid colours on this plug. I don't see any solid colours on the wiring diagram.
Also maybe concerning is that my stereo seems to only have two RCA's on the back?
I like the idea of skipping the amp and going straight in. First I need to find the amp though. I've got a 95 and, like someone early in the this thread, my amp is not behind the glovebox. The fuel injector thing is there instead. I looked quickly under both seats and didn't see it there either.

It is behind the passenger kick panel the pink connector I believe goes to the amp I left it in because my hands were too big to fit so I just took a pair of dikes and cut the old harness out. If I could go back I would cut holes for 6" speakers in the doors and pillars. I'm running a 50x4 deck with 4" alpine full ranges and 1 10" sub that runs off a 300w 2 channel amp with the channels bridged. It's not competition level but the truck is full of sound and the mirrors shake.
looks like a metra 70-9401 which is the non amplified harness. you may be able to use this with the line level converter but I'm not sure exactly how the pins and wires line up (like I said I haven't been in a rover in years) I would honestly try to find the amp (if you have one) and bypass it. are you getting no sound at all?
So your LR has the ISO A and B connectors. Some head units, like my Blaupunkt 420 BT, take the ISO A and B connectors without adaptation. So here is my long, drawn out, installation procedure :
Unplugged the old head unit
Plugged the new one in
and, er, that's it.
I'm driving the old LR amp with the speaker outputs on the head unit. Who cares? It works and sounds fine.
Sometimes you can over-complicate things.

No sound. Only power. Not even a hum. That's the mystery. I've got three multi-plugs: Grey, Yellow and pink. The Grey and Yellow have 8 pins and are both connected via this harness. I'm guessing they are the ISO A and B's? But then wouldn't I be getting sound?
I will find the amp and see what going on there.
