Default Random Hazard Light Flash (3 times)

Hi,

I have a 1995 300TDI Discovery 1. It has an alarm and immobiliser which both appear to be working perfectly.

I have encountered a strange issue where when I lock my car it all closes and activates the alarm as normal (seemingly all is perfect) but when I’m sitting inside I can see that it is flashing the hazard lights 3 times. It appears to be doing it all through the night with no set amount of time in between.

3 flashes nothing else. Car is still locked, alarm isn’t going off, car literally just flashes the hazards 3 times. Goes off for a random amount of time 5,10,30 mins then again 3 flashes again and again.

its not necessarily a huge problem because it’s not as if it’s unlocking itself it’s more it’s going to start annoying the neighbours and of course if there’s a problem I’d like to fix it.

Im not expert but I do not believe it’s the alarm activating as it’s only 3 times and the red light still blinks (not solid if it was immobilised)

I have tried researching this but have found no answers the only bodge solution I can come up with is to snip the ecu to hazard relay wire… so if anyone can point me towards that wire that would be helpful if all else fails.

many thanks.

Some models have a volumetric alarm to detect motion on the inside of the vehicle. Perhaps your sensor or a related item is providing false info to the alarm ECU.

That is just a wild guess. Hopefully it gets you thinking about some of the possibilities and eventually lead you to a solution.

so the volumetric alarm has never been plugged in in my ownership so it wouldn’t be that. I had thought it could be something else but it’s not actually the alarm tripping because it might only flash once or 3 times. If it were the alarm I imagine it would flash for a minute or two and likely have the horn going too
