Remote oil cooler... Ideas?
I'm getting my radiator recored and at the same thing thinking about going with a remote oil cooler with more cooling capacity than the oil-coolant exchanger it's got now. I've heard that a proper cooler can reduce lower end temps by more than 40° and keep the engine much happier, since most engines run at way above optimum temps for the oil to achieve proper lubrication.
My problem is I can't figure out where to put it. I'm not sure if there's enough room between the ac condenser and the grill to fit one, and there's no way I'm going to mount one lower than the radiator or in the wheel arch, on errant rock on the trail and I'm done for...

Exactly, I'm thinking if anything the stock exchanger contributes to high coolant temps rather than helps them.
I toyed around with mounting the cooler in the hood, HMMWV style, but I can't figure out how I'd mount that either... Plus I worry a low pressure zone would exist and air would just woosh passed the cooler rather than through it!

Where would you suggest on the frame where it'll be safe from mud and rocks?
I'm looking at either a flex-a-lite HD dual circuit cooler (power steering and engine oil), their 20"x5" oil cooler, or just an generic hayden tranny oil cooler, since there are literally millions of them on ebay!
Thoughts?
