Replacing Camshaft
As some of you know I am replacing my camshaft and lifters this Wednesday. Looking for any tips from those who have done this in the vehicle. Not sure how much clearance there is between the front of the engine and the radiator. Will that need to be removed on the Discovery?
I have read through the rave but as always it leaves alot of the required steps to get to the timing system. I have done the headgaskets so have had quite a bit of the engine apart before.
Also any tips on what to address while I am in there would be helpful. TIA!
As a matter of recourse I am posting my original video of the noise prior to the repair:

You aren't getting that cam out with the radiator and condenser in place. You need to remove the radiator completely, the condenser you can move up and out of the way.
The truck is a '95, so the oil pump is probably the old style. It's external and can be replaced afterwards if need be.

I thought the same thing, but someone pointed out that serpentine 3.9l like in the disco has an internal oil pump. It's the v-belt engines, like in the rrc, that have the external oil pumps.
Age has nothing to do with part wear, it could be 50yrs old with 1,000 miles on it and you wouldn't think twice about replacing something.
You ordered from D&D didnt you?
They also have a high flow oil pump, weather or not you replace it is up to you, personally I'd leave it alone unless you are having problems.
But the timing set is a must since you are installing a new cam.

I did order from D&D. This was what he recommended. As far as I can tell the oil pressure is good. I have a feeling the PO just did not take care of it and my using 5w30 castrol syntec led to the lifter and possible cam demise.
I already switched to 15w-40 rotella with a the recommended larger oil filter. I will stick with the recommended break in oil for the cam (valvoline VR-1 taken from discoweb) then go back to the rotella.
