Talking Road Trip

Hey guys. I thought I should post something about my vacation. I just got back from the beach on a family vacation, 200 miles each way and 100 miles while there. This was in my '96 Disco SD with 130K miles on it. The truck was flawless. A/C worked great. Radio worked great - although I have replaced the front door speakers. Used less than a half a quart of oil. Started on first spin every time. Gas mileage - I didn't check, but after 200 miles I still had 1/4 tank left (the fillups are hell though !). I wanted to go off-roading at the beach, but they make you pay for a year's permit and I was only there a week so I had to skip that unfortunately. I've driven this truck on vacation many times and packed it full of all kinds of crap and it's never let me down. Just sayin'. Yes, I've had all the common ailments, drippng mirror, curly dash, window ECU issue, fuel pump failure, headliner, ABS issues - but all in all - if the truck fell apart tomorrow, I'd still have gotten my money's worth out of it, and it's still lookin' pretty sexy too.

We're heading out this afternoon on the first long trip of the very hot AZ summer season. Just under 400 miles round trip to the White Mountains. We'll see how she does under load, up hill with a/c on and 113 out for the first 70 miles or so. Got my tools, AAA card and a credit card so we'll see.

I love these stories, to many people are afraid to drive their truck any farther than the grocery store for fear its going to self destruct.

What beach did you go to? Glad you had a great trip. When you have owned it for years and dealt with the things that have come up, it should do fine on any trip.

If you just recently bought it, and it has unresolved issues, then you are definitely traveling at risk.

The only thing I would question is the Land Rover is SEXY? Maybe the Jag VDP is SEXYl, but the Land Rover is A FARM GAL AT BEST, EVEN WASHED UP , POLISHED AND WEARING A NEW DRESS. IT'S STILL A PIG IN A DRESS.

Jaguars, different story. I like the XJS body or the early E Types, or the very early two tone salons with the running boards and giant headlights mounted on the fenders.

Sexy?? More like a pub wench - the more pints one consumes the prettier they get.

I think they look timeless, unless you actually know they look new-er.
My ex wife was PISSED when she first saw mine, for the first year and a half after our divorce she thought I bought a brand new truck.

That's a great story! after reading of every ones troubles....A well maintained vehicle should do what it is designed to do.

Glad your trip went well. Sounds like a really good time. I haven't been in a while can almost feel the breeze. putting good beer on tomorrows list.
