Rotoflex joint
Sorry for late reply
Had a wonderfull trip to the coast and the Disco behaved well

Actually I would say the shaft is replaced 50% and modified 50%
The diff. 3 point was machined down and 4 hole flange welded on
The old shaft (Dented) was cut behind the sliding splines and new tubing welded on with U -Joint yoke welded on the rear end to fit the universial
I can really reccomend this mod in place of Rotoflex
Regards
Just catching up. Sounds like this is the way to go. I am getting a rear axle minus all the internals and the outer bits. Plan on building a bullet proof rear ujoint conversion with a internal air locker. Should get my Disco anywhere I point it.
I bought a used 98 DI driveshaft and will be getting the needed flange and such from Paul Grant.
I would be a little leary of the repair/mod that was done on that one that fell out, but the proof will be in how it performs. Sounds like they must have done a terrific job.

The rotoflex rubber will be on the shelf gathering dust while I can take the disco beyond the unknown.

I have really pushed the Disco into places where I was uncomfortable to go prior to the modification.
Just think to do the front drive shaft U-Joints a.s.a.p.
Just could not post fotos (Tried but Failed)

So I hear a lot about this U-Joint conversion and it seems to be the way to go. What all do I need? The newer model Discovery (95+?) drive shaft and a 4 bolt flange? I saw the link to Lucky8 and it's $200. Is it worth it?
I should have done this conversion after 2nd rotoflex replacement.
The engineering shop (dont know if I may mention names of buisness) actually made me a complete drive shaft with bits and pieces of the old shaft.
I have pulled off the diff. 3 piont (Splined) whitch the shop machined down and welded on a Flange. They pared the universial flange and drilled the four holes threw the welded blank flange.
Welded new tubing on the sliding Yoke and WALLA !

@ $200 it seems to be a bargain. SA rands to Dollar is 7.
I have paid +/- $540 (R3800)
You will never look back!

Or you can carry a spare Roto-flex and a couple wrenches and quit worrying... Not a difficult repair given the right tools and parts.
Like I said, I picked up a 98 driveshaft which came stock with the four bolt flange half on it, and bought a four bolt flange and spacer from Paul Grant. Waiting on it to arrive, should be Monday. Will let you know when it is complete.
Mountain Goat may be comfy with carrying a spare RotoFlex and the couple of wrenches, but you still have to struggle to force the shaft forward to slip the old rotoflex off and the new one over the centering pin unless you unbolt the front of the driveshaft from the parking brake.
I doubt our young friend Calebbo would be as comfy changing one out on the trail or side of the road either.
Did you ever get that CDL fixed Calebbo or have the factory rivets still got you beaten up?
You could leave the rubber boot in place and use a hole saw on the side of the tranny tunnel to gain access. I put a special access hole in mine with a drill and tin snips.
