Default Runs but does not move.

I purchased a 95 discovery and towed it home yesterday. I had heard the engine run but knew it had issues. I've had an overall look at the truck and here are the symptoms. Electrical seems good with the exception of the ABS light.

In drive the front driveshaft turns. That's it. I can't select diff lock. I'm sure it's never been used and the linkage is seized up. Owner said he parked and a few minutes later when he went to leave nothing.

I don't have the radio code. It would not be something simple like last four digits of the serial number?

I purchased this truck for $700 assuming it would need a bunch of TLC. Every seal seems to be leaking. I need to make room in the garage and get it in the air.

Sounds like a fun project, lots of fixes. At least the motor runs........ Automatic or manual trans?

3.9 l automatic. In my off road experience I'd have to say autos are the way to go. A lot easier to creep. I keep hearing these are Buick engines?

I prefer and auto for on and off road. Here's a decent account of the Rover V8; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rover_V8_engine

so in drive, truck on the ground, the front driveshaft spins but the truck doesn't move?

Something is broke in front axle if the d/s is spinning, remove wheels and dust caps and go from there, I would also check all fluids, and drain that rear looking for metal, rears are avilable at bone yards

Default No moving.

I suspect the front axle. There is a 95 Discovery locally that has the engine pulled. May buy it for spares. It was a diesel model. Are the T case and most other components compatible? Final drive ratio etc?

Thanks guys.
