Then again, I'd love to see pictures of the truck in question. I know I have guy who is tooling around in an old Disco that is, quite honestly, unsafe. I shudder to think of what the underside of that truck looks like but he's more interested in buying body parts from me to fix up the appearance. There are a lot of people driving around out there in unsafe vehicles.

It galls me that here in the state of CT, as long as you pass emissions, you can register and get a plate for any vehicle. You could be driving around in a Fred Flintstone mobile for all the state cares, as long as it's not emitting too many particulates. Go right ahead and drive your unsafe vehicle, there's no one who will stop you. It wasn't always that way here in CT. There was a time when you actually had safety inspections along with emissions testing. Back then, you would see a lot of ME plates on vehicles that were clearly owned by CT residents. The main reason was the lack of a safety inspection in ME. I'd always cringe a little when I saw an old pickup that looked like the body was going a different direction than the chassis and it had an ME plate on it!

Thank you jimvw57,
I will be going to the shop and getting the details. This was very helpful. You are absolutely right. It's okay to say it's unsafe which is a very general statement; having and sharing specifics as to what makes it unsafe is a starting point to fix the problems. I think that for every problem there's a solution. Thank you for the advice.

Paul,
Thank you also for opening up the conversation to be specific about the problems. I will be going to speak with the mechanic as soon as this week if work schedule allow. Having specifics makes a dent into what can be done. I was so inspired by this article that I read in British Atlantic Newsletter (I think) about this young man who restored his (70's or 80's) Range Rover from nothing to something beautiful.

Anything can be fixed if you have the money and knowledge. i have seen things that went from a lump of rust and damage turned into a rare gem. Not sure if it is worth it sometimes as the cost (to me) seemed to be more than it would ever be worth, but that is their choice. I have worked on vehicles and spent way too much n fixing them up, but it was worth it to me just to have it done and enjoy them a bit longer. Enjoy your truck, and the journey to get it where you want it!

Sounds like you need to start looking for someone who restores rovers. Fortunately body panels are still available from Europe.
I am at that cross roads myself - lower portion of B pillar is rotted out, some bits in the bed etc.... do I restore it and keep it or send it off - - still undecided as its not unsafe yet.
I dream of a day that I can get a small container's worth of parts from Europe with co-operation of others wanting in on cost sharing. This could include impossible parts to find here like the original hood liner as well as rear door sill and other body parts.. There are many items this could include but if a few of us wanted to split the shipping and then transfer at a specific location here in the US it seems it would be worth it.

It's a long, long read but it's right here in our very own forum; https://landroverforums.com/forum/bu...b-build-75641/ You'll see floor boards and C pillar body mounts get remade and installed....... I would assume you are in the same boat, and it's sinking.........
