Should I reset adaptive memory?
Unhook your battery overnight. The memory will be erased. Not a good idea because your srs could fault out. Unplugging the ecu could fault it as well. Then it is a dealer reset. You will probably need to make sure your IACV is seated all the way when you unplug it.
In my opinion, it would be worth the $100. You could do everything and still have to take it to the dealer, or worse, have it towed. You already saved a ton of money doing your head gaskets. Take some of it to a shop that can do it.

If you just swapped in a diff IACV or TPS without resetting the system you wouldn't be able to tell if they are the problem. When you had the TPS off how did it idle then? If it idled steady but just high I would go ahead and replace it. The IACV is 50 bucks from NAPA give or take a few bucks. I would just replace it as well but that's just me. And you will have to have it reset with testbook. I have yet to find anyone that said that just driving it through the drive cycles helped it reset. Don't rule out the IACV or TPS yet. Like I said, just swapping them out would not work, as the setting would be off. Even a brand spanking new one out of the box will require a reset. Good luck.
There is a difference between resetting the adaptive memory and resetting a value for a new part with testbook. If you unplug and move the plunger for the IACV, the ECU thinks it is still in the same spot. Thus you get a different idle. take out the IACV and mess with the plunger if you want. It is already off. My thoughts are that you could buy a new one, and it would still read the same unless you get really lucky.
my idle drops to normal, but after a few revs, it jumps back up to 2000 rpms. I will be checking the IACV and cleaning it, but if I have to replace it, and replacing it means a dealer reset...what do I do if the closest dealer is $1500.00 away(not counting paying the dealer)? Do I replace the IACV and hope it resets on it's own magically? Or just live with the high idle?
