Default So Which Brake Light Switch is It??

Obviously the brake light switch I have out of my 1996 Disco is the four prong switch. However, every supplier lists the four prong switch as being for a standard transmission and a two prong switch for the automatic?

What's up with this?

****
Edit: I'm posting just as a cautionary tale. Beware that suppliers have this wrong. Check what you have before ordering.

My '98, '97, and '96 all took the black switch and they were all autos.

Every supplier? Please list the suppliers that are recommending the wrong part for an automatic Land Rover Discovery. I have parted out well over 150 DI's and RRC's over the last ten years and have NEVER seen the brake light switch on the left.

This is a classic example of why places like Atlantic British, Rovers North, British Parts of Utah, Rovah Parts, ect. are of such great value to Rover owners. These are companies run by Rover fanatics for Rover fanatics. Even if you pay a little more than you might from some online parts palace, at least you can talk to someone at these places and make sure you're getting the right part. Try doing that with PartsGeek.com. When you want to fix your truck and the repair is urgent and important, why dick around with a company that hasn't a clue or a care about what you really need to get your Rover running.

I can appreciate what you're saying, but when your Rover is immobilized in the driveway it's 'any port in a storm'.

On the other hand - the switch I just bought at O'Reilly was $20, at Atlantic the price is $90... I'm wondering if the price reflects the quality of the part?

"Any port in a storm' would have directed you to the wrong part. You had to come here to have confirmation from us that the part your seller was recommending was in fact wrong. Cold comfort in my book. So, AB had the genuine article for $90. Rovahfarm has it for about $25 (and their shipping is really cheap). I don't mind shopping for a good price but to actually give my money to a company that is misleading me. That's another thing entirely. You were fortunate to have these boards to turn to in the midst of your storm. Others may not be so savvy. It amazes me that people support companies that treat customers so poorly.

BTW, the part O'Reilly's actually says is for your 1996 Discovery (according to your posts) with automatic transmission is actually for a 1987 or 1988 Range Rover Classic.

No, I did not have to come here for confirmation. I came here to commiserate with fellow Rover enthusiast who may have had the same experience.

That's not how your original post sounded before you conveniently edited it.
