Spencers 98 Disco Build
#12
Got a smitty built recovery strap and D ring Hitch.
Put it to the test today. I know its not for towing buts its all we had.
I also found out how weak the rover is. But here is one thing.
This thing is deceptively weak, the transmission DOES NOT shift down like a normal car. If you want to get some more power you need to shift yourself.
This truck shifts WAYY to early and honestly Im not sure if it EVER goes into first gear by its self.
After figuring out that I needed to shift for myself It was alot better. 50 MILES tow back home. Nice to see the rover is towing ANOTHER vehicle for once. Still weak, but it taught me how to get some power out of it when passing too. The manual says just push the pedal to the floorboard and it will kick down for passing.. I have never experienced this..

I had a leaky sunroof and some falling headliner, took it out to fix it and said hell with it.
I dont need no stinking headliner. Sticky backs holding the wire up fell
I can't hear any difference really, other than when It rains!
I build a little something to mount up my rear controlls and there fine with me.

I have done a full throttle to pass on a 2 lane highway and she will downshift, if you wnat her to downshift you need to be heavy on the foot.
You can also check the kickdown cable on the trans to see if it is loose/stretched.
I carry my handgun in the center console and I never leave it in the truck, it always comes with.
I am not a fan of painted rims but I like the way yours look, with the silver center caps and lugs.
Its funny how your '98 is a LE and my '97 is a SE.
I have pulled people out of ditches, out of the road, and down the road and have no problems with power.
I think once you understand and get used to the "slow" factor you wont even notice it, but then I drove truck for 15 years and 0-60 takes 5 min and a 5% grade at highway speeds and you still slow down.
You have to drive it like a big truck, take your time, plan ahead, be curtious often but dont be afraid to be pushy when needed.
I cant go from a stop light to 85 mph in a 1/2 mile, so if you wont let me in then I'm taking the lane, 3 blinks of the blinker and I'm merging whether you're still there or not.
And I'm not driving faster than 65, so tailgate all you want, I'm setting the cruise and you can kiss my @ss.
