Has anyone ever completed a complete removal of the air bags restraints?

I'm just going to unplug whatever i need to when i put on my tjm bumper. I'd like to be able to bang into a deer or something (which isn't uncommon in Montana) without setting off the airbags.

You need to look at the RAVE, there are 2 different systems on a D1, the earlier system used 2 crash sensors in the engine compartment, where the later system used 1 crash sensor in the control unit (under the console). If you are going to start unplugging stuff, make sure your face isn't directly behind the steering wheel or the glovebox.

If you need to unplug them because of your new bumper then you bought the wrong bumper.

Hitting deer is quit common here too, I dont have mine unplugged because my bumper is strong and provides front end protection.

I suppose I should have asked about just removing the bag and not the entire system.

ive done this on other cars after fitting aftermarket steering wheels, not a big deal just do all your airbag work with the battery unhooked.

Airbags are also very powerful (fun/dangerous) explosive devices. If you drill out the one way screws you can extract the explosive module and detonate it by supplying 12v to the rear terminals. Don't blow yourself up.

I knew that they contained a massive fun-fun factor, but I have been banned from starting fires, explosive devices and anything with a pointy end!
