Default Starter Question

'98 DI w 110K

Is there anything that would cause my Rover to eat through starters? It had a new starter put on about two weeks before I got it. (back in April.) That one went bad. Put another one on in May. Now that one is bad. I know the last two were remanufactured ones supplied by NAPA for the local Firestone auto care. Just want to make sure there isn't another issue burning up the starter.

Thoughts?

How's the cranking speed? If slow, then you probably have low voltage to the starter and that will shorten the lifespan of them.

Rather than reman, I suggest a Denso starter from britishstarters.com

Cranking speed has been normal. I think your suggestion is the best plan. I've seen a few people recommending those. Fortunately the starter is an easy swap. It just gets old doing it.

Thanks!

Also look at the condition of the ground connections to the frame for both the starter and the battery. I had to redo mine.

Yeah, that is one thing that can contribute to low voltage through the starter.
