Default steering issue

i searched the forms and rather than comment on a post from 2007 i am gonna ask here.
on a left turn when i start to turn the wheel back to center it acts like no power steering almost like the wheel is not connected to anything. i have confidence its not in the steering column. my research leads me to believe its in the pump. am i on the right track ? the only post i was able to find related to this the opinion was it was the pump ? thoughts ?

What year and how many miles on it, when was the last time you flushed your p/s system?
