Default Strange Noise coming from or near front left wheel

Hello everyone, I just got my first LR Discovery about two and a half weeks ago so I'm very green. It's a 1998 and has 106,000 miles on it. The first week was fantastic. Its the only Land Rover I've ever driven and I fell in love with the thing almost instantly. I'm not what you would call mechanically inclined but I can do simple things like oil changes, etc... After the first week I noticed a strange noise coming from either the left front tire or somewhere near it when I would decelerate at low speeds, almost like a wheel bearing going bad or something and seemed to occur at a certain point in the wheel's rotation. The noise would go away if I turned sharp left or right or accelerated. It also would keep making the noise if I took it out of gear. Its an automatic.. I did change the front diff oil but to no avail, it seems to be getting worse. Today I took it to a mechanic, it made the noise but he said he checked everything out and has no idea what it could be... Said I should take it to a land rover dealer... I've searched this forum but haven't found anything like my problem so I apologize if its already on here somewhere. Please help... Also please let me know if you need more information.

That sounds like a bad wheel bearing to me.
Have him repack the wheel bearings on the front axle, there are 4 of them.
2 on each side.
Stop driving it until you get it done, if it seizes up you are in big trouble.

Thank you. I will definitely have that done and will let it sit until then.

At the very least make sure he repacks both sides on the front axle.
If you have the money do the rear too.

Since he hasn't done it before, about two hours shop time. You can google it and find a video of guys doing el-pronto. DIY - you'll spend more on hand cleaner than the can of bearing grease...

If you buy the parts, and have the local indie muffler shop do the work, about $200 for both sides.

Sounds like a wheel bearing, but just another idea...How are your breaks? Does it shake when you apply the breaks? Does it grind at all? Are the calipers warped, what do they mic at?

mine sounds more like a grind and happens when turning left. very predictable. would say after the car is running a bit it is less pronounced or goes away. i'm about to do all hubs as the guys suggested here.

When I get those noises, I usually find that it is caused from random Heep parts that I ran over while on the trail...

Do you drive on a lot of gravel roads?
