After about of year of frustration trying to get my Disco back on the road, I finally capitulated and purchased a used alarm/ecu off of eBay.

Truck is a 96 R380 Non-ael and the eBay alarm/ecu is from a 98 AEL truck. I was wary of this working as I've heard of idle issues and code throwing
due to the differences in the fuel system.

I do have the associated codes, but the truck runs great now, no idle/revving issues.

HERE IS THE KICKER:

The truck will only start if the rear swing door is open!?

Symptoms:

CEL on key pos. II but no crank once turned past.

Open up rear door and truck starts just fine.

I was getting close to giving up on my dream vehicle, I'm just happy its back on the road.

Any idea on going about diagnosing this strange issue? I can rebuild a long-block but still learning electrical diagnosis.
