Get some engine starting fluid and spray it around the intake base to before the MAF at all the joints and see if the idle changes. Where the idle changes when you spray is your leak.

I have a 96 with obd II but I had all the symptoms you are talking about and it was the ecm....in the 96 the ecm sits right beside the window washer bottle....and when the wash is sloshed over the top of the bottle it hits the ecm and it corrodes the aluminum box and eventually gets to the boards....I don't know where they put yours but it is likely in the same place....it only takes a few minutes to take the box out and look. It mimics a lot of other issues.

it is on the passenger side attached to the fire wall sandwiched between the washer bottle and the fire wall it is held on with two bolts and has a black plastic cover. if I can get this to work I will put a pic here

Your right the ECM is located between the washer bottle and the fire wall, but for some odd reason my ECM is under my passenger seat....

I think when they switched to obd2 they moved it to the engine bay, my 94 is under the pass dash which is better imo

yes in the engine bay is the worst place. think I will figure out how to put it in an otter box or a bag something when the washer fluid hits that aluminum it just bubbles away.

I feel stupid... My dad and I checked the first spark plug and only the first spark plug, didn't look bad... We failed to check the other bank of 4 on the left hand side of the engine... For some odd reason the left bank of 4 where lose and almost blow out... kinda feel stupid but hey I have my rover back...
I'm looking at having my dad's p38 150 alternator that needs to rebuilt... is this a good idea or am I $crewing my self over?
