I just replaced my subwoofers with poly cone 4 ohm woofers from Parts Express. They completely transformed the sound in Indy and they were only $6.49/EA. With shipping and tax, the total was just over $20. They are a perfect fit with no necessary modifications. The screw holes matched up, they fit the opening in the plastic housing perfectly, and the basket and magnet fit in the original opening. Just passing along in case you need replacements.
They're actually quite strong and produce some decent lower bass. These are the drivers utilized in the Dayton Audio B652-AIR which receives a great review from CNET https://www.cnet.com/news/dayton-b65...und-like-this/
Both surrounds on the original driver cones had disintegrated, so I replaced the stock woofers with Kenwood speakers years ago that never sounded right...too mid-bassy and not efficient.
I'm quite impressed with these, especially for the price.
speakers arrived yesterday, outside temps were around 5 degrees and supposed to get a bunch of snow today and tonight. Might have to wait a bit before installing them. Loved the price.. $6.49 each!!
I also used the stock amp. There were no screw holes through the magnets to mount the amp on the new speakers like the stock speakers had. I used 3M double sided clear mounting tape to mount the amp to the back of the new speaker magnets. All good so far.
Since the new speakers are moving more air and producing more thump, I now have to investigate the source of some bass rattle that's cropped up. It sounds like it may be the license plate vibrating against the rear door.
I replaced the speakers in the front doors and rear pillars with Polk Audio DB 402's and replaced the stock head unit with a Sony a while back. I'm using the Sony head unit to power the Polk's and the stock sub amp to power the subs. I bypassed the stock main speaker amp by rerouting the wires in the passenger footwell. The Polk's produce great mids and highs, but the lower end was lacking until I replaced the speakers in the sub enclosure. They don't produce super low bass, like my SVS sub in my home system, so don't expect bone shaking mega bass. They just round out the sound and add a little to the lower register to make the sound more "full". I have no complaints with these speakers especially at a cost of $6.49/EA.
