fan clutch finally arrived, installed it and today took a drive. temp went up slowly and peaked at 207, and then up to 210, but back down to 205. I was on side streets doing about 35 mph. I need to hit the highways and pick up some speed. Still haven't gotten the A\C fans to work yet. need to crawl under the dash to get to K109 relay (which I suspect is the problem) Truck worked well except for some noise from the brakes from sitting too long.

i replaced my fan clutch, i think it was one that kicks in at 170 degrees? supposedly the stock value. sounds like an airplane at 55 in the summer, but i've never had any cooling issues since then. oh, and i also replaced the fan, as the original had a half cracked blade. Anyway, having a viscous fan that kicks in 90% at 175 does make a difference.

How do you get one that kicks in at lower temps? I have not seen any give the specs on when they lock up? Not sure what my new one starts working but this could be helpful.

Doesn't surprise me as I have seen some strange wiring configurations on this truck. A\C does run so I doubt it is a fuseThere were brand new Warn aux lights mounted on the grille guard (which has not been put back on yet) so maybe.....
Just FYI those auxiliary fan motors are about ~25 a piece and it’s a relatively easy install. If you pull the connector (mounted on top of the auxiliary fan unit) and apply battery power and they don’t turn on then it’s almost certainly bad motors. The technical page has the exact motor you need, I believed it’s from a 1993 Corolla.

Years ago I used to see a little old woman parked in a parking lot with her hood up during the summer months. She would park, pop the hood and wait about 30 min then leave. Had a 1997 D1. I could have set my watch by her parking just about.

yeah, but that was most certainly because she wanted to give passerby’s the opportunity to marvel at the glorious machine that is a Discovery.

So I replaced the coolant sending unit, the one with 2 wires ( X113 I believe) and driving the same road as I did last week, only with warmer outside temps this time, Engine temp only got up to 191 on both trips to and from park. I used an OBDII reader with live data to monitor the temps (same as last time) I will need to make some longer trips for further testing. Fans still do not come on with A/C system....

My guess is the sending unit may have been giving bad readings but we will see...
