Enough of that!! got the new 180 thermostat installed, filled at the upper radiator hose, purged air at the plug in the radiator, heater on full, and temp is sitting right around 207 with a OBDII reader. Still have one wheel up on the curb, but maybe do a test drive tomorrow. Didn't want to get stuck on the road with the grandson in the truck.

AHAH!!!! tried turning on the motor, and A/C on max, front fans did not start up!! verified that my 97 does act the way I think it should, motor on, A\C on and fans were running!!
Doesn't surprise me as I have seen some strange wiring configurations on this truck. A\C does run so I doubt it is a fuseThere were brand new Warn aux lights mounted on the grille guard (which has not been put back on yet) so maybe.....

I took a look and notice there is some play when I move it in and out, shaft stays solid, and when I spin it a bit, it spins quite freely after a few turns. I checked my other Disco and it stays pretty stiff when I spin it a few times. Guess it needs replacement. Thanks for the heads up!!
still no luck with the AC radiator fans. Have not gotten to the K109 relay yet. gotta stand on your head to get to it. I did find one of the other relays was corroded in th eupper corner... not sure how that happens as water usually collects at the bottom not the top.
