Default Throttle linkage cables

There is a cable beneath the throttle cable that I'm not sure what it is. It hooks into the transmission on top, mine got hot up against the exhaust manifold and melted the casing and doesn't move. I tried soaking pb blaster down it to loosen it up, but no luck. So iI need to order a new one, but not sure what to order.

Is it the kick down cable? If it is can I just run it with out it. I use this for off road only. What does it actually do?

It Is the kick down cable, Says it should be taken to a dealer to replace. And I'm not doing that, says you need a special tool to unhook from the trans. Can it be done without the tool?

found a little more info on it and seems to be an all day job. I'm still trying to figure out if I can run it unhooked since the truck really never comes out of 2nd gear in the tight woods. Has anybody ever done this?
