Throttle cables stuck
Hey guys im having a problem with my cars throttle cable, when i press the gas there's no power at all and when i pull the cable my engine doesnt even rev. im also having other problems but this is what im focused on right now. any ideas?
Sure, inspect the cable at both ends, especially at the t/body end, male sure it is attached and moves freely when you step on the pedal. When was the last time you cleaned out your t/body? In this cold weather it could be gummed up and frozen.
Don't worry about the looseness in the cable till after you get things working again and then have some one step on the pedal while you look at the throttle plate to make sure it opens all the way, if it doesn't then adjust the cable so you get full exceleration.
while the cars idling twist the throttle open by hand, if it revs normal, then you know that its a cable problem and not fuel/spark related!
while the engines off, you can do an easy cleaning/inspection of the throttlebody... its simply 1 screw that opens the clamp that holds the air clear tube to it, slip that off, then you have clear view of the butterflies. take some carb cleaner, place a towel or rag under the throttlebody, and spray away at the gunk, give it time to wash back out onto the towel. if its really bad spray a link free rag with cleaner and genrtly rub the gunk out. oil is often flushed back into the throttlebody by the pcv system which can gum up the tb blades causing them to be sticky to open/close or into the idle bypass.
