You should accep0t that as "Nothing has been done lately" and do all fluids & filters as well as the wheel bearings.

My 97 has about 125K on it.

Another thing, if the cdl/ hilow shifter gets slightly out of the proper position, you will get noises and such also.

If you put the 85/140 in the transfer case, it will quiet it down also.

hehe my truck is a baby with only 111k on her. but that info is so vague its almost impossible to find. i would look into bushing kits, alignment, look at tires see if they are separating, check ujoints, ball joints, hell check your lugnuts see if they are tight to the right specs ( i think 95 lbs torque ) not 100% sure on the specs.

What about shifting the transfer case while transmission is in Neutral?

OK, tried every different gear combination. pretty much same result. The drive shafts are spinning, but nothing is engaging. the original thumping noise sounds like it's coming from the rear axle.

Also look at the rear rotoflex coupler. It will be cheaper than diff.

After reading this I ordered on for the MJ with a whopping 101256 miles now. Getting a come and go vibration that i felt was a "U" joint but seeing the coupling that makes more sense to me. It is there then it is not so I just did the normal THROUGH MONEY AT IT and poof it is fixed. PS $232.00 now at 2200 miles and NO PROBLEMS at all no matter what temp.
