Default Truck go boom

Just installed new suspension (has nothing to do with issue but angers me to say it) the other day just before I rolled over to 266k and an hour ago my transmission decided it wanted to lock up. Sort of. Started to hear a slight grind as I was nearing my house and pulled over and as I slowed to about 5mph it slammed I to what felt like park. Fluids are fine however I did get a trans temp warning light last night after fighting a 30mph head wind driving home. CEL came on as I stopped the truck and I pulled an P1316 misfire code (earlier this week I pulled a code for a bad vss according to my innova) I'm guessing the vss has to be the issue here? Can anyone elaborate or help here? Super bummed as I love my truck and it's my DD, had to steal my wife's car to get back to work.

If I need to explain anything better let me know.

Cool

im guessing by the number of views and lack of responses im alone on this situation. *sigh* guess ill "rebuild" the vss and hope for the best... doesnt make sense to be that a sensor reading speed could cause what can only be described as a transmission locking up... idk atleast the grounds nice and cold. thanks for reading!

What happens when you shift into gear at idle?
Engage, grind, nothing?

just came inside from trying to better diagnose as my S. Tx. blood doesnt like this cold windy weather...

It began to grind as i rolled it to park earlier where it sits. Now when idling it doesnt clunk or grind or any audible shift, however if you give it gas R or D doesnt matter it will move with loads of resistance then stop immediately when you let off and kind of rock back a forth a bit. it almost feels like youre power braking. i worked the CDL back a forth a good number of times and at one point i thought it was just not seating in 4H well, as it engaged like im used to and drove (a few feet for fear of grenadeing the tranny in the street) then back to the same bogged down and forced movement.

Checked fluid levels again and all is well and good as well as the quality of the fluid. Just mind boggling. like i said before I hadtranny temp light last night on the highway and then this happened.

i kinda thought that as well, however there definitely was a grind from the trans almost like it was forcing itself into Park while moving... actually thats exactly what seems to have happened now that i think of it. After researching further on previous posts here as well as LR Tech Data I started to wonder if perhaps my trans filter is clogged and isnt allowing the proper fluid amount into the unit as per my trans fluid temp light last night and this issue now. Does that make any sense?

Did you check the fluid level in transfer case? Could have run low got hot and seized up all gears inside, part fell off parking brake locking the drum?

Dear sweet baby Jesus, why did i not check that earlier. T Case checked and confirmed to be low. How low, idk yet, cant see or feel with my finger. its cold, dark, and i feel stupid. Gotta check for leak and get some RTV and fluid tomorrow. gonna clean and reinstall the cover plate and stuff tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. Heres to hoping i didnt fry my t case in my lack of sense. Ill keep you posted, unfortunately i didnt have this happen while i was off for two weeks or have the sense to check more things while i had the rover in my friends new building while i did the suspension.
Anyway im gonna go let the wife know the news she can have her car back after tomorrow ( i hope)

What Tom said sounds more reasonable. The transfer case could have made the noise and I doubt you could tell which one it was making the noise(Transfer case vs. trans).

Let us know.
