Default U-Joint Zerk fitting - how do you reach them?

Is there a trick to getting the grease gun to reach the zerk fittings in the u-joints?

It seems as though the tip of the grease gun is a hair too wide to allow a proper connection

thanks!

Are you using a grease gun with a flexible hose?

Yes, it is a basic grease gun with a flexible hose. The yokes of the u-joints (upgraded to hardy spicer) do not seem to have the clearance to allow for a secure connection.

I was thinking of finding longer zerk fittings to allow for greasing and then putting back the original zerk fittings.

A lot of times those are a tight fit. I use a narrow needle tip on my grease gun.. much easier to get into tight places and works great.. below is link to example one.

How hard did you push? It may take a very firm push to get it in there and seated properly. If you have concerns about damaging the grease gun fitting, I'd recommend setting them aside as I doubt you'll deform, etc. the fitting.

I know on my Disco 2 the angle of the U-joint can make it a pain to fully lock onto the zerk fittings. That lube needle attachment helps.

Very easy to use.. I've used it on D1's and D2's drive shafts... don't have to push hard at all. It's all I use now.

Yes, the needle made it super easy!

Now if only such a tool existed for reaching the manual transmission’s reverse light switch.... that is not fun lol
