Default ultra-gage no fuel sensor found

After reading here about ultra gage I checked it out and bought the EM Plus and installed it today, but one thing it does not seem to know is how much gas is in the tank. I told it the engine size and gas tank size (23.4 us gallons) but in the fuel setup it says no fuel sensor found (or something like that.

Anyone know if I am missing a fuel sensor or does this function not work with the ultra gage? The gas gage does work.

It won't know think it is a calculation thing, like you reset it when tanks full and I think it starts to avg the fuel economy

Cool fuel level sensor mode must be set to disabled

You are right, Tom. I downloaded the manual (none came with the ultra-gage) and it says if there is no fuel level sensor, you set the fuel level sender mode to disabled and then you tell it when the tank is filled. Or as the manual says:

"MENU  Fuel Menu ..  Level Sender Mode
UltraGauge automatically determines if the vehicle supports a fuel level sensor via the OBDII. If no sensor is available, the message “No Fuel Sensor Found” will be displayed when MENU  Fuel Menu ..  Level Sender Mode is selected. .... Please note that all vehicles have a fuel level sensor, however, not all vehicles make the sensor available via the OBDII."

Apparently our fuel level sensors are not incorporated in the OBDII computer. Bummer. So now I have to fill the tank and inform the ultra-gage, and whenever I get gas I'll have to fill up completely and tell it again or go through the exercise of entering how much gas I put in the tank. I sure hope the injector cleaner in the vent tubes makes it easier to fill the tank next time. (at least I didn't blow up the charcoal canister).

Default followup: MPG sensor in auto, maf, or map mode?

I drove around the block after telling my new ultra-gage EM plus that the tank was empty and then that it was half full (since there is no direct fuel sender reading through the OBDII); both instantanous and average MPG values were in the 500 to 600 MPG range. The manual says you may have to set the "force MPG sensor setting" to MAP if you get nonsensical readings, but when I did that the unit scanned for gages again and one or both of the MPG gages were erased from the gage page.

I set it back to Auto and it scanned for gages again and the MPG gages were back. Anyone had a problem with ultra-gage MPG readings on a D1? Or do I just need to drive it farther and let it settle in?

MAF, you have a "Mass Airflow" sensor and not a "Manifold Absolute Pressure" sensor.

Thanks, I set it back to auto; perhaps I should set it to MAF then just in case Auto get confused.

Oops. Never mind. Checking the version it says "Version EM Plus V 1.2 Mar 4 2014, Gages 48/81, fuel sender No, MPG sensor MAF, Protocol 9141." so it is using MAF. Guess I just need to drive further to see if it figures it out.
