Default Ultra gauge engine load question

Running around town I notice engine load at or around 35% after getting up to speed 45/50 mph in 4th gear. Now moving into 5th the rpm drops and engine load increases to around 55%. Anybody have a clue as to which gear I should be running in for better mpg? Seems to me 4th but it's right at the top of my shift point 1600 rpm, by no means is it red lining but, I run at this speed for relatively long runs on a daily basis and am wondering if someone could clue me in.

I too have one of those and have notice about the same, however lately it looks higher than normal as it is due for tune-up and oil change. better mpg? whats is that? I am happy with anything above 12 or 13 for the city.
I assume you have an auto? I never go into torq lockup till right at 51 mph, yours the same?
