Default US Discovery 1 - was it available with a 5 speed?

My understanding is that it was not available in North America with a 5spd, however occasionally you see them for sale in the states.

Is it possible that these are European market vehicles that were imported at some point, and would I be able to identify a European market truck from it's VIN number?

Thanks in advance.

'94-'97 NAS Discoveries where available with the 5-speed in the US. I'm not sure about Canada.

North American Spec, as opposed to Domestic, gulf states, and ROW (rest of world).

Thanks. So I should be able to find one then if I look hard enough.

Am I right in thinking the Disco 2 was not available with a 5 speed in North America or is that also incorrect?

Correct, the disco II's did not come in a 5sp. Series I'd did in two trim kits: SD moderate/basic ( no sunroofs, cloth, etc..) or premium SE7 (heated power seats, cd changers, sunroofs, etc...)

We opted for the SD in '96 and we still love it (102+k mi)

Actually there were three levels SD, SE, SE7. And you could add options to the SD including sunroofs and the power seats instead of manual seats.

All SE's had the twin sunroofs. SE7 had the rear jump seats standard.

In 98, they even had the dressed up version HSE(?) I think it was called.

From what I have read, even though the 5 speed was available, it was only in a small percentage of DI's, something like less than 10 percent. Tow Rowe can give more specific info as he has a wealth of knowledge from his long term addiction.

There are D1 5 speeds around. I've seen others for sale....

My wife and I like the automatic, but we prefer the 5-speed. It makes the Disco that much fun to drive.....

I've seen 4 or 5 5-speeds for sale in just the past couple of weeks.
On one of the forums someone has the complete kit for sale, used of course, to convert an automatic to a 5-speed. About $750 I think.
