US Discovery 1 - was it available with a 5 speed?

I have another question. From what I've read, the '97 D1 was a better machine than the 94-96 models - I'm talking about the 3.9 versus the "4.0" motor. Sounds like the latter was a fair bit more reliable.
Then it sounds like the D2 with the 4.6 had lots of problems again making the last years of the D1 the best bet. (that and the 5 speed option)
Am I right..... ?

And yes, there are 5 speeds. I have a '96 SE7 with power everything, 5 speed manual tranny, CA emissions crap, rear a/c, jump seats, power sunroofs, front brush guard, rear light guards, fog lights, yadda yadda yadda...Mine is so loaded with crap, it even came with the much coveted intermittent high idle!

I read all the buying guides and tech articales on this board. anything specific to the manual tranny I should check out?
