IF YOU TEAR UP YOUR TRANNY, THAT 5 SPEED CONVERSION SOUNDS LIKE A VERY GOOD OPTION, instead of rebuilding the existing one.

Wow I payed $500 for the Mrs's off another forum member. That one better be mint condition for that price. That said there are 5 speeds around and I dont think they are as rare as the people selling them think they are, when I was looking for hers I found six "rare 5speeds" and two automatics.

All SE's had the twin sunroofs. SE7 had the rear jump seats standard.

In 98, they even had the dressed up version HSE(?) I think it was called.

From what I have read, even though the 5 speed was available, it was only in a small percentage of DI's, something like less than 10 percent. Tow Rowe can give more specific info as he has a wealth of knowledge from his long term addiction.
Mine has the two moon roofs, jump seats and rear a/c but no power seats. What model would it be?

thanks for all the info everyone.

I have another question. From what I've read, the '97 D1 was a better machine than the 94-96 models - I'm talking about the 3.9 versus the "4.0" motor. Sounds like the latter was a fair bit more reliable.

Then it sounds like the D2 with the 4.6 had lots of problems again making the last years of the D1 the best bet. (that and the 5 speed option)

Am I right..... ?

That's been my take as well. Later D1s have cross bolted bearing caps, more even head gasket pressure, and stronger water jackets.

Depends on how you define "better".
I have a '95 (3.9, distributor, OBD1) and my wife's is a '97 (4.0, coil packs, OBDII).
I'll never buy one again newer than a '95. I prefer simple.
We'll be selling the '97 next year.

I haven't seen any evidence from the forums that the later models have any fewer cooling system issues.

I was under the impression that the revised engine from 97-99 was more reliable and has less head gasket problems. If this is not the case I can open up my search to include 95 and 96.

What I really want is a bone stock 5 speed discovery. Opening up the search to 95 and 96 would actually help, as being 15 years old they will not fall under the RIV program when importing to Canada. Not that the RIV program is impossible to work around, but it is a few extra hoops to jump through.

I would think it is an SD with the other things added as options. You could option them up. Does it have any stickers on it?

Mine is a SE, sunroofs, but no rear air or jump seats.

What does the vehicle title say?
