Vented Brakes Upgrade
Hey guys currently i have solid discs with the single port caliper, im looking to upgrade to vented (maybe also drilled and slotted from EBC) and the larger 46mm piston calipers.
i herd that the 46mm are mostly dual port, if so how would i go about installing these? and i take it i will need these since i am converting to vented discs?
p.s im planning on ordering a set of braided brake lines as well but unsure on which to get, like do i need the 5 piece, 3 piece, etc. going for goodridge lines btw.
thanks in advance

All you need are two D90 calipers, vented rotors, and pads. They only use one brake line and they are the same fitting as the stock D1 calipers. You'll need to bend the hardpipe going into the caliper. Or I prefer to just buy two new 12" length of line and bend my own.
When I upgraded mine Justin at Lucky8 had the best deal going. He's pretty much a one stop shop.

i plan to re do the brake plumbing anyway cause its become a mess over the years (every mechanic its been to had decided to re bend it for some reason), so will get new pipes all round.
btw if i do decide to upgrade to cross driller rotors, should i pick out the ones for a d1 or d90 or 110? i dont mind fiddling around a but so long as i get the max stopping power i can get. i.e largest rotor and caliper combo.
You should really search this but here's the short version:
-NAS D90's came with vented rotors.
-NAS D90 and 110 calipers are the same, EXCEPT the 90 calipers have a spacers between the two halves to make room for the wider vented rotors.
-90's and 110's both use the larger pads.
-110's and D1's use the same non-vented rotors.
Confused yet? LOL
The best braking performance will be achieved with D90 calipers. For those you'll need the stock vented rotors and D90 pads. I really don't think slotted/drilled makes a bit of difference on these trucks.
When you say ports what are you referring to? D90,110, and D1 calipers all have one brake line going to them. All utilize four pots(pistons) per caliper. The 90/110 use 46mm pots while the D1 uses 41mm pots.
All the above is only relevant to front brakes.

by ports i mean brake lines going into the calipers, i have seen several with 2 ports on each caliper (they were all 46mm piston calipers)
the reason i want slotted/drilled is for slightly better cooling and bragging rights (yes i admit it).
okay so i take it that i should order brake lines for a defender then when ordering? since i'll be installing those calipers. (keeping in mind rear will still be original)
Surprisingly that made a lot of sense!! :O

Don't order any brake lines. The pre-bent lines are about $70 and $100 for driver/passenger side respectively. Go to any auto parts store and buy two 12" lengths of 3/16" Metric bubble flare lines, M10 fittings I believe. Should be about $5 each. Bend them by hand to fit. Where the line enters the caliper you'll need to bend it down and back so it clears under the spring perch when the wheels are turned. Its easy, don't worry. And at $5 a pop you can afford to make a couple mistakes, you'll still come out way ahead by not buying the prebent lines.
The RRC had two brake lines to each caliper. Don't bother, they're a pain in the *** especially when the D90 bolt right up so easily.
