Default Weak power steering pump?

Hi guys,
Been on the forum for a few weeks, learning lots, but now have a question. I just bought our first Disco 1 last week (already having a D-90), and it takes a lot of effort to steer the thing, especially at low RPMs. (Way less assist than the Defender.) The input shaft on the steering box was leaking like a sieve, so I replaced that seal thinking that the fluid leak was causing low hydraulic pressure. After the seal was replaced, the steering got a little better but not much. It almost feels like there's no assist as you get toward full lock. If I left foot brake and get a little more RPMs, the power assist increases.

My guess is the pump. Is the fix to just replace it?

Thanks,
Pete

I had the same problem with mine. I ended up putting a used pump on it and my problem went away. I especially had problems after the fluid got hot it was like not having any assist at all.

That might be easier to find than a used Disco pump in my area. I can get an A1 Cardone from Autozone or a Fenco from Advance, but not sure of the quality of those. Which Chevy does that come out of?

92 s10 with a 2.5L. You will need a new hose with a bend or a longer hose as the pump has a straight fitting for the return line and not a 90 degree bend. Also run PS fluid instead of ATF for this pump...Note this is for a D1 application: https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=35013
