Default Weekday Warrior.

Hey guys, So i think im gonna take a week and really overhaul my rover, Right now as it sits it needs the 60K service, a master cylinder and cosmetic fixes here and there i just have a couple questions before i start up.

1. What should i order online for the 60K and what should i just buy at the local parts store? Remind you id like to use the best of the best.

2. When i lifted my rover, I was told i should consider replacing the steering stabilizer, Should i do that this week? Ive always wondered will it make a big difference? it hasn't been replaced in 75K.

3. Besides whats on the 60K and wheel bearings, What else should i check, Remind you the truck came from AZ with no records of any services, So im assuming not alot was done or very minimum, Also i take it off road quite a bit.

I would just pull the "Shopping List" from the Sticky. The lubricants you choose are really up to you. You will find that some SWEAR that "Royal Purple" will actually save your vehicle from ANY Diff/TC Issue you have and revitalize it - like NEW, others will swear that "Royal Purple" will actually SEND your truck to hell...

Same with the gear oil weights...

You can search this forum and find at least 100 dissenting opinions, but at the end of the day, they are just that - opinions.

It is really up to you and, probably more importantly, what YOUR Disco needs. Nothing on that service is so extravagant that, if you feel something isn't performing to your standards, you can't change it.

My only advice is to get the "One Shots" for your swivel *****. gear oil of any weight that I have used just leaked out.

Good Luck!

Have a productive weekend!

Chris

Do some comparison shopping. Add the items to your cart for the various online vendors and walk in to a couple local stores with the list and ask for a price quote. Then you decide where to get stuff. As for what else....whatever you have the time and money to fix that is broken/breaking. If they said the stabilizer needs replaced, then do it. Can't hurt anything but your wallet and maybe the skin on your knuckles.

On the topic of the one-shots, if you'll be doing the wheel bearings, you might be well-served to go ahead and pop off the hubs and get as much of the old grease out of those swivel ***** as you can, then service them all back up at the end. When I replaced the grease in mine, I got some little one-shots of #00 grease from the local mower/tractor store. They're a little less volume than the Rover ones, I believe, but they're about half the price. Or you can just get a big bottle of it, too.
That's my token piece of advice.

DO NOT do a engine flush, especially with ATF.
DO not use Dex-Cool.
Just change all the fluids and filters and belt and hoses, pretty simple.
Tune up too if needed.
Dont worry about buying the "best of the best", all you're going to do is lighten your wallet.
I buy my gear lube at Tractor Supply and use their house brand in 85w-140.

Here is my best advice for you to help you keep your Rover running for a long time, change your fluids and filters often.
I change my transmission and driveline fluids once a year as well as my fuel filter.
Its under $100 to do all of that and I spread it out over several weekends.
