I'm going to need a new battery soon. Current one won't hold a charge. Is there a preference? Or just go with the cheapest auto parts store brand?

I still use optimas, even though they are not what they used to be.

I was just debating this. My Interstate is getting older. Autozone just came out with a AGM Platinum battery. At 171 bucks it had better be good. I can't seem to get on board with Optima. I've had two. Two failed early. I don't see the advantages other than no spill.

Red Top Optima - 800 CCA. Got mine for $30 bucks new and I can't complain, it's lasted five years so far. Pays to know who's who in the military........

Thanks for the thoughts.

Any special consideration if my truck tends to sit in a garage for 1-2 weeks at a time? During the spring it will be out a couple times a week, but through the winter it is basically just a weekend machine.

Yeah, install a cheap battery disconnect on the negative terminal.

I had a red top in a Jaguar V12 that came with it and died within a year. To their credit Optima replaced it free after I folowed their instructions and took it to an Autozone for them to pronounce it DOA.

Optimas do not like to be discharged even a little bit, so they are not good in cars that are not driven regularly. That was what their service folks told me and they said Yellow tops work better in that case but don't have a warranty.

BTW, do D1s take a group R battery? I have a larger one in mine right now that barely fits with no room for a disconnect on the neg terminal.

Made in the US AGM from someone like Deka or Enersys, who makes Odyssey or Diehard platinum).
Exide is another good company but I haven't tried their AGM.

I went cheap and got the Advanced Auto AGM battery. After the $50 off online coupon it was only $130. You can still choose in store pickup.
