So, hypothetically speaking, if one were to not fully replace the transmission dipstick could one expect oil to leak out of that while driving around and sort of create a large amount of leakage down onto the passenger side cat, 02 sensor, and basically all of the undercarriage?

Asking for a friend.

No visible transmission leak can be detected from below. It'd be real cool if the loose dipstick is the issue. Otherwise I might just cut my losses on this beast, and part it out. I mean my friend might.

You may want to cut your losses anyways if your friend can't seat a dipstick..........

How did it drive when said dipstick was unseated?

Heh. No kidding!
Drove pretty good today. Leaking didn't start until after I had checked Trans fluid this afternoon. Looking for the source I noticed that my *friend* may not have gotten the dipstick snapped all the way back down.

Everything else is pretty much looking as expected.

Just replaced my lower radiator hose last weekend, and she's holding coolant after a couple burps. Engine oil is not low. New MAF has her purring like a kitten, too.

Tell em to seat the dipstick, clean up the mess and keep an eye on things for awhile.

Hey, don't feel like your the only one. I was out late Thanksgiving like 2:00am ish and it was raining like crazy. Drove right through a lake of a puddle (cuz it was raining and Rover never thought of designing decent windshield angles) and the next thing I know my battery light is on. Well, that tells me the serp belt aint doing squat. I find a nice dark gas station parking spot and shut if off. I realize very quickly I don't have tools cuz I just cleaned out the truck Wednesday and forgot to put them and my flashlight back. I have half a jack handle, a breaker bar, a speed bar and no sockets. The belt was fine, just came off after the soaking. Sooooo, dressed up and getting soaked it took me an hour to finally figure out a way with what I had to get the tensioner slack enough to get the belt on. I about knocked myself out, probably busted my right thumb joint and severely cut a finger on my left hand but I got it back on. Started right up so I headed to an open gas station and washed a pound of belt, grease and blood off my hands which took several times and realized they only have an air hand dryer. I needed paper to remove the stubborn stuff. I used about a roll of toilet paper which just disintegrated and left pieces all over my hands, air dryer finally came in handy, bits all over the floor.

I then proceeded at 3:30 (with a Red Bull in my gut) to visit a casino and won $446.63 in less than 15 minutes off a $20. I called it a night. "Never give up!" I should have tattooed to my ****. Thumb is still swollen, a reminder to keep my house in order or else.......

Here's how I cleaned it up...

Let it idle and drove around a little until all the leaked oil burned off and it stopped smoking. Drove 'er down to the light rail this morning, so if I don't get towed for not having license plates I'd say I'm about 2 7/8 more steps toward sweet success.

Thanks Walt! I don't need much help falling asleep, I stay pretty busy wearing myself out........ I had a great TG'ing, really enjoyed it. Wasn't ready to quit enjoying it either - push it right to the red part as my Dad used to say.

Kilby, your killing me....... and the Disco.

Just trying to keep it light. I bet ya $100 she's run better under my care than the last owners. What with the heavy amount of broken stuff she's got.

May still be dying though. Who knows?!

True, true. BUT! We may never found out how good if you keep letting things unnaturally burp themselves dry eh. I'll double down and say under your care it still aint up to "we the diehards" standards yet!

How many miles on that jitter wagon?

Ha ha. Touché. I did top it off after that nonsense. Was Just outside doing maintenance somewhat distracted by stuff... anyway she only lost not even half a quart.

Sitting right at 138,600 on the clock. Also, I'm really digging the Torque app and OBD2 scanner!
