Cool, you've got something that can be trained but your gonna have to stay ahead of it especially with the cooling system. Can you get more than one rotation out of your cooling fan with a cold engine? What color is your expansion tank? Know when the thermostat was last changed and what temp range it is?

My guess is that if one of you guys had found this rig in this shape you probably wouldn't have bought it! Lol.

I'll do my best to train it up!

Expansion tank is black. All the existing coolant was shiny green when I replaced the lower rad. hose last week though.

I think it's a stock thermo, and not sure if it's ever been replaced.
Based on my scanner it gets up to 190/195 before it opens.

Oh, I don't know about that. Good rig to learn with THEN go buy a good looking one......

Black is bad, you will need a white aftermarket. The originals will split right at the seam. I would replace the t-stat as well. It is the stock heat range. I keep mine at that range because I'm one of the few that actually burn premium and I can get a better range out of tank of fuel than with regular.

Again I ask, can you rotate the cooling fan one full rev with a cold (dead) engine?

I keep forgetting to check that fan... Should it spin when off or no? I've been reading up on the GM fan clutch replacement. Thinking I may be doing that soon regardless.

No, it should resist turning and you should be able to feel it resist when engine off, fan clutch cold. That is what bit me in the nuts many moons ago when I was a Rover Rookie. Went wheeling hard in low in cold weather and it overheated, expansion tank busted a seam like now too. So here I am in the woods miles from anywhere and I had to creep it back home. Moral of the story, get the cooling system up to par. Your at the mileage point where it's overdue of it's not already been done, I kid you not.

That clutch fan is a hungry bugger. Already bit me too. I swapped in a dual electric fan setup. But I'm still rocking the black tank
