Default What should I know and be doing when Spark Plugs that look like this?

Hello Good People,
Today I was able to replace the spark plugs, and here is my findings.
Plug #6 looks the worse.
What should I know and be doing about this?

Backstory:
New Heads and gaskets, new plug wires, and spark plugs in Sept.2018.
Ran fine up till June.2020. At this time I thought it was a starter issue. After replacing the starter it immediately ran rough with P1316 code. No other code.
The plugs removed in the image are the standard Copper Champions.
Though it has been 2yrs with these spark plugs it has only been 3300 miles since their install.
Spark plugs on the 2-4-6-8 side smelled a bit on the gassy side.

I have a new set of O2 sensors ready to go, though not sure if the current ones are completely dead. It has been 4yrs since having the truck and I have yet to replace them.

Share your thoughts and insight.
Thanks

I have zero experience with discos but that would lead me to believe you have a weak spark... see if all of those get their spark from the same coil pack. I'd probably just replace all coils... and running rich/ putting unburned fuel through the system like you have will eat cats... and cause your o2 sensors to notice lol.

Also... intake/exhaust leaks on that bank?.. look for them... you can over fuel from that.

Thanks for the reply,
I was wondering about that ol coil pack. If I replace the coil pack I might as well switch out the O2 sensors while the area is available.

I had a small exhaust leak in the manifold that was patched up with some furnace cement.

I believe there's 2 separate coil packs. 2,3, 4 and 7 work off one and 8,5,6 and 1 the other. I had flipped flopped mine at one time due to loosing spark but later to find it was the ECU shutting #7 plug ( long time ago) because I had a bad VSS.

D1 GEMS = 4 Coil Packs with 2 per Coil & D2 Bosch = 2 Coil Packs with 4 per Coil.

D1 GEMS use the same coil packs as a 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0L 4 cylinder & D2's use the same coil Pack as a 95 KIA Sportage 2.0L SOHC 4 cylinder.

Thank You Everyone for the responses.
I will switch out the coil pack between now and this weekend.

A bad coil pack has me thinking...
When the truck would not start back in June 2020 I thought it was the starter but I was wrong. I am wondering if I replace the coil pack if I can return to a normal start without the need for the momentary switch connected to the starter. Time to find out.

when your Disco would not start back in June, would it turn over or it did nothing as if the starter was not there? A bad coil pack would not keep it from turning over. If all the plugs look like what you attached, I would think something else is the problem, IMO. When it runs, is it misfiring, sluggish? If it starts with that switch bypass, yeah, that would eliminate the starter.

Back in June the engine would not turn over. I only heard a click from the passenger side footwell. The battery was full and good working condition, all dash lights worked, just a click when trying to start.

At one point I thought it may have been my ignition switch. Going back a couple of years it was hard to remove the key from the ignition cylinder. I followed a mod from the forum that meant filing down parts of the key cylinder. It worked, from that moment on I was able to remove the key without any issues. Everything was going fine until I needed to replace the heads and gaskets back in Sept 2018. I put on:
Two resurfaced heads
Gaskets
Fuel Filter
Oil change
Air Filter
New Plug Wires - the good stuff
New Spark Plugs - Champion Copper

She started up and was good to go with no error codes. It ran and felt solid. Solid up till June 2020. When to the car and it would not start, just that click. The truck's battery is always put on a trickle charger when parked at home, so battery is always topped off - Optima YellowTop. I ordered a starter cause I thought that was the issue. The old starter once apart showed signs of needing new brushes, though I never had any hard start issues. With a new starter in place I got the same click. So now I am in a jam and I need the truck for work so I connected a momentary switch to the starter and she fires up every time! But when she runs it is now rough, there is a misfire with P1316 error code only. I doesn’t have the power it had before it would not start. At times there is slight fuel smell. Pressure on the fuel rail is between 30 to 31 psi. Thought it could be a sticky injector so put in some Lucas Injector Cleaner, along with some Techron injector cleaner.
A few days ago I replaced the spark plugs and that was a step in the right direction as it drives better. This time I notices a little white smoke from the exhaust. No coolant leak.

I also have two new front O2 sensors ready to install if need be, along with a set of Bosch 19lb injectors.

The wife would be happy I am using more words these days but maybe not so much when posting on the forum. LOL

Your thoughts?
Thanks

this is from a post about code p1316 from Disco Mike in 2010: 1316 is an excessive emission misfire, not caused by a sensor but by how the engine is running.
What octane gas are you running? Pull a spark plug and see how warn out it is, what color are the plug wires?

What I see I would change the plugs, get a good brand, the right plug and a good set of plug wires. Also I would get Seafoam spray and spray inside through where the intake filter is (take filter out first) to clean out the MAF (or just get MAF cleaner) but the Seafoam is to clean the injectors, etc. Putting it in a gas tank (with a 1/4 of a tank is an option, but takes longer to clean out the carbon on the injectors, valves. Read through this all the way: https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...316-help-5661/ Oh, how is the intake air filter, clean?
