Default What should my Idle Rpm's be

My Rover seems a bit louder than the last at park and in drive. Almost like its idling to high. I've also noticed after driving it at highway speeds and then slowing down for fuel it continues to idle high. When I crank it and let it get warm I idle in park at about 1.5 and when I go into gear I'm usually at about 800 rpms. Maybe the p.o. adjusted it for winter cranking. I just bought in 2 days ago and drove it home fine the p.o. did say it was due for an oil change. Could that have an effect?

Usually when warm, mine idles around 650-750. I don't think a due oil change would cause the truck to idle high.

Upon cold start the engine will rev up on its own anywhere between 1000 and at MOST 1300 rpm... once warm it should have a steady idle at 700 ish rpm. Normally at startup the higher revs should drop down and remain steady at 700 within a few seconds... 10 seconds at most.

Type "high idle" or something like that into the search box (look up to the tool bar)... you will find many solutions to this issue as it can be caused by about 10 different things... with more details after you have checked out your vehicle more and give us some more details then we can help narrow down the cause.

Depending on how cold it is where you live, if the truck has sat all night/day like already said it will idle high but the idle will remain high longer than 10 secs.
For those of you who live in warm weather this is to aid in engine warm up, but then you guys think 60*F is cold.

I have my idle set low, my truck idles at 600-650 rpm.

So tonight after driving highway speeds about 20 minutes. I parked and taped my sunroofs for temporaty stop leak. I crank the truck up and it idled like it had water in the engine. Almost shuttering like it was going to cut off. I drove it and it drove and then it got normal again but now its idling consistantly in the normal parameters. I think its safe to say theres a ghost in the machine.
