Branch deflectors, not the proper name but close enough to get the point across.
They keep branches from hitting the windshield.

I understand the reasoning behind limb risers, but question their practicality in N America. I have run some VERY tight trails in northern Wisconsin and have never come across a situation where I had wished I had them. Maybe they would be useful if I was running the Camel Trophy in S America, but not in the states. Going slow is always better anyways, as is taking the 2 minutes to trim that branch.
They can add that "cool expedition" look if that's your thing.

You are correct, they are not 100% needed, but they do help and they are cool.

Spike and I made our own trails for awhile in northern lower Michigan..... It was a damn good thing he had them and I wished I did from that point on because I was moving limbs over my truck with my windshield.

Amen brother!!!
We need to plan a day to go to the Air Gunnery Range in *******, 100's of miles of trails over there.
Hell, we could even drive the entire way to the bridge and never use a public road!
