I have run 35 watt, 6000K HID's for years in my truck and when using ones with a good deflector, they work great on and off road.

I'd say a set of non DOT e-code lenses would be a great upgrade.. DOT lights throw alot of light up to illuminate overhead signs. e-code lights have a sharp cutoff in the middle with a kink to the right to illuminate signs and such on the side of the road.
