Hi everyone,

The transfer box in my 96 Discovery 1 V8 auto has crapped itself. I’ve potentially found an ex-defender LT230 with the 1.4 ratio for sale. I know that the swap from Discovery to Defender is pretty common but how about the other way round? I’m not too bothered with the ratio change as I have bigger tyres than standard (32”) so it shouldn’t be too big a difference.

Should be the same, but I can't say 100% since it was the original owner who put a D-110 1.4 ratio case into my D1. I can't recall reading about any major differences externally.

 

Aside from gear ratio there should be no issue popping it in

 

That’s kind of odd, that transfer case is one of the more bombproof bits of the truck. What killed it, giant wheels?
