Default Will be tearing down engine to change head gaskets

Hey guys I will be tearing down the engine this weekend to install the new head gasket set and new injectors. I have a 1995 disco 3.9l. Is there any advice y’all have before I tackle this? Or anything to look for or replace while I’m in.

thanks!

Are you going with the 4 Hole Bosch style injectors? I have them in my 95 D1 and I noticed a much smoother idle, and throttle response vs the 1 hole OEM injectors. HG wise it's pretty straight forward job. Just have a mixture of 1/2 extensions as the rear HG bolts are right up against the bulkhead. Some people use wobble sockets, but I've had good luck with the short 1/2 extension, and good 16mm impact sockets.

May sound a bit silly, but did you get the head gasket kit or just the head gaskets? Other parts I would probably do while it's apart are, new head bolts, new exhaust manifold bolts and gasket, and the intake gasket as well. Also I would probably run some b12, or whatever cleaner of that type you prefer down the fuel rail, and clean out the intake cover, and butterfly. One thing I would recommend and this was advice given to me by my uncle who was a mechanic is before putting the bolts for the head/exhaust manifold in take and put a little motor oil on a rag or your finger and run a bit around the threads. That way they will thread in easier, and not fight ya, which some of the head bolts when I did mine tried to do. Also did use a tiny little bit of the oil on the injector o rings as a couple of em kept wanting to not go in. I can think of a bunch more things I personally would do, but then again I try to get as much done at once as I can. Since I I get hit with these horrid no ambition waves :P. Also I would go buy a paint pen like a gold or silver sharpie, or both for marking hoses as most all the wiring is pretty straight forward and hard to lose track of where they go, but do make sure to put all those little clips that go on the wires in a container, as I didn't and lost a couple. Though luckily the handles off Chinese takeout containers can work ok for a replacement :P. Hope this helps some Also if you need any assistance and I might be able to just let me know, or if you have any questions.

If you don't have the factory manuals you can grab them from the google drive in my signature.

Take pictures as you disassemble. It'll come in handy when you put it back together.
