03 Headlights into a D1?

I WANT IT!!

I always heard about the d2 conversion, but NEVER considered doing it to a D1.
What does this take? Is it any different than an 03 into a pre 03 conversion?

Eh its looking like you have to do a front end swap...

If the junk yards around here had d2s I would..

 

That would take some fabbing.
The DII is wider than a DI.

 

It does look really sweet with those headlights in it though. Wish I could pull that off.

 

Here's my theory. The 99-02 D2 headlights fit a D1 with no modification. That being the case the 03-04 headlights should also fit with the same amount of modification to fit them to a 99-02 D2.

one of the mechanics at Premier Rover in San Diego installed the 03 headlights into his DI. It looked very cool. He told me that he had had some front end damage and ended up welding an 03 front bracket (headlight mounting part, I am not sure of the correct name for the part) and then mounted the light. He said that there was a fair amount of modification but because of the accident damage, he would have had to have done the work anyway. Phil

 

Anyone have any updates on this? Just bought a 98' and would love to do the conversion. Looking for a nice step by step instruction like you can find for the D2.

 

I'd rather have defender headlights on my d1
