Question Wont change Gears

UGH, I have a 97 Disco and the transmission has decided it either does not want to change into the next gear while accelerating or it takes me Red lining the engine to get it to do so. Has anyone had any problems with this happening????

Many thanks to All

torque converter might sticking or just bad. Easy and cheapest way to try and get it going is:

Drain about a quart of your trans fluid(not necessary but recommended), add a can of seafoam in the tranny, drive it around your neighborhood (manually shift thru all the gears you can) until it gets to operating temp, drain fluid, refill with new fluid, drive it around again till it gets to temp, drain again and refill with new fluid.

Hope this helps.

I will try that.... Could it be the KICKDOWN cable? or might that not have anything to do with my issue?

MANY THANKS

Check the fluid level. May seem like a no brainier but the proper way to check it is as follows

1. Make sure vehicle is on level ground
2. You can check fluid level when warm or cold, easier to do when engine is cold just after start up.
3. Set e brake
4. Shift from park to neutral the back to park the slowly shift through all the gears starting with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, neutral, reverse, park and then check the level.

I had the exact same issue with mine and it was the kick down cable. When you replace it also get the transmission filter and change it as well. It's not a bad job either and mine shifts perfectly smooth now.

I just replaced the Kickdown cable and cleaned out the transmission pan and refilled with Valvoline transmission fluid and it is slowly figuring out how to change gears again. The longer I ran it the better it started changing gears. Reverse is still barely working though. I am thinking STUCK VALVES in Tranny??? Has anyone had these symptons and how to fix?

Please and thank you

Seafoam in the trans will help unstick the valves. Run it to temp, shift thru all the gears, drain, replace filter, replace fluid. Should solve your problems.

There is a setting on the kick down cable where it attaches next to the throttle cable. The Rave manual list the specs.Did you check that? It sounds like the fluid changed helped. Did you change the filter as well?

The filter was changed less that 100 miles ago. I just seafoamed the tranny, drop the fluid (Again) and refilled. I did not change the filter just yet. I am thinking of buying the 2 tranny hoses to the radiator and doing it when I change them out as well. I have all forward gear changes I believe (at 50mph running 3000 RPMs and not changing once more) but the reverse gear is still acting funny. High RPMs gets it to finally go into reverse gear so I can back er up.

PROGRESS

With the Kickdown it is a pain to try and get that crimp done. Any ideas on what to use fer that?? I do have the nut closest to the tranny (backside of the plate) at 5-6 turns like I have read somewhere. The change points seem to be ok..... I guess

Am I doing ok? and what next???

Can you clarify this statement? You should not be running 3000 RPM @ 50mph
