Default won't hold idle after a long drive

After a 2 hr highway drive I stop at the end of the off ramp and it stalls.

No CEL. Starts right up but wants to die without jeeping RPMs above 1500.

After it sits for 5 min it starts and idles as if nothing happened.

I figure it is a sensor (or sensor connection), but which one?

Idle Air would be my guess.

I will get a fresh gasket and clean it. Carb cleaner, maf cleaner, or brake cleaner?

Any thoughts on why it only happens after a reasonably long highway drive? I have absolutely no tribes with "around town" driving.

Refreshing my memory, this is the pintle you don't want to move when it is off, correct?

Carb cleaner works best, your downstream of the MAF so it won't harm it.

There are four IAC functions controlled by the ECU. Cold start, warm idle, cruise A/F mixture adjustments and decel. A few outside items can effect the idle, a vacuum leak, clogged PCV valve and base idle port occlusion. Out of those the PCV will make the largest swings in idle performance. Hitting the IAC port and pintle with carb cleaner and the base idle passageway will rid most of the shallow faltering.

I wouldn't worry too much about touching the plunger, I dropped mine on cement and broke a plastic coil holder inside the housing. Long story to get it back to working state. As long as the plunger is returned to touching the seat it will work like it's supposed to. They're pretty tough little motors.

Thank you very much. I removed the maf, and IACV, cleaned the throttle body and IACV and the female side on the plenum, reinstalled and after a long highway drive I had no problems.

I hope that is all it was.

If it reoccurs in near future post up. Usually it's PCV related. When PCV begins closing off vacuum pulls from large hose on right valve cover into plenum and oil begins building/baking in IAC port. Since I've done away with the PCV and made my own oil/air seperator I've not needed to clean anything in plenum. Dumb design.
