Default "miss" in transmission

My '01 is doing something odd and a bit difficult to explain.

It feels like the transmission is skipping for a half-second, typically around 1900 RPM, and typically when in 1st or 2nd gear. It is like the feeling of a smooth normal shift but the RPM's don't change like they would if it actually went to the next gear. Said another way it feels almost like a single engine mis-fire, but I am pretty sure it isthe transmission - besides I am not getting any engine light like I would with a misfire.

Arguably it happens more when the tranny/engine is still warming up.

I just had the transmission serviced (filter screen etc) and it is still doig it. No better or worse.

It is pretty subtle, likely no else but me would notice it in the car.

Seems it is more obvious when I am light on the gas and go through 1800 - 2000 rpm.

Any ideas?

i have the same problem, same area, its like a little lag inbetween 1st and 2nd right? mine started leaking tranny fluid a bit, and im getting it rebuilt next thrusday, luckily mines still under warente.

service told me its fine to drive, but who knows for how long. it dosent sound like yours is bad, and if it out of warente i would just drive it till it goes. (unless im missing somthing here that someone should correct me on).

Go have a mechanic, with the proper scanner, read for tranny fault codes and if none, then have him clear the adaptive menory and go drive it. By doing this the tranny ECU will relearn the proper shifting for your truck and driving habits.

To disco Mike - likely unrelated to theshift-miss but on both my '00 and '01 disco's I can't tell the difference in shifting patterns when I put the tranny in sport mode...yes the green "S" light comes on.....but they both seem to shift the same whether in sport mode or not.Any ideas?

I drive it normally and expect to see the shift points to occur higher up in the rpm range but it is not really noticable.

I have used this mode in any number of other cars....for example in other cars if you are going up a hill and the engine is a little bogged down, switching into sport mode usually gets the car to downshift right away.

Like I said my rovers pretty much drive the same old way in or out of sport mode.
