Question $^%& factory radio!!!

I'm about to give up on this factory radio, sell my cd changer and just put in a aftermarket system. Here's the story: PO put in a radio from an '04 D2. It works but the face plate is shot so only the steering wheel controls work. I've got the factory radio that was pulled from a 2000 D2 in working condition, but when I hook it up, the sound is very faint. Volume **** all the way up, steering wheel volume control up and it's still very faint. Looking thru the Rave, the only thing I can see is a wire that says "telephone mute." (grey bottom plug C0098 pin 1) Well I don't have the phone option, but I decided to cut that wire but no difference. The only thing different I see between the two radios is that this one has another jack next to the antenna jack. Is there supposed to be something plugged in there? There are no other wires in the dash except for the small yellow plug (C0921) with two wires and Rave shows that as "telephone audio +/-" Doesn't make a difference if it's plugged in or not. The radio from the "04 worked fine and great sound, just the faceplate is shot so I know it's not an amp issue. Also tried a working radio from a '99 D2. Same thing, almost no sound. That radio also had the "extra jack" in the back. Would like to know what's missing here... or maybe I should just shop ebay for an '04 radio in working condition???

Noooo don't give up.
Okay, so there were two different types of radio's made for the D2s. One doesn't require an amp, and one requires an amp. The high-line radio requires an amplifier. The original radio in my D2 didn't require one, so i had the same problem.

This is the amp i bought for my radio. I've been really happy with this amp, i've had it for just over a year and had no problems. It gives the speakers a much better sound than my original radio too.

I mounted it underneath the driver's seat. You'll have to do a little bit of wiring, but it's not too bad. I spent about 5 hours on it, however, i took quite a few breaks along the way

btw, there's quite a few "extra jacks" on mine. It could either be:
A) For the 3rd row seating headphones
B) For the secondary antenna which is only implemented if a high-line radio system was originally installed in the vehicle.

Your antenna is that little defroster looking thing in your rear right window. If you have a high-line system, your driver's side rear window will have a defroster looking thing in it too.

Did some digging around and here's what I found:
I don't have a factory amp. There's a mounting bracket, but no wires.
Searching e-bay, I found there are 5 different radio's that fit 99-02 D2's
XQD101340LNF / XQD101350LNF / XQD101390LNF / XQD101400LNF / XQD000120LNF
The last one says it will work on both high line and base line models. (I sent the guy listing it on e-bay an email just to make sure) The one I have is the 101390 which, now that I've googled all over, have found that is for the high line model. Bought the wrong one All the features are the same between the 101390 and 000120 and have the same features listed in my owners manual. But apparently, the first one needs an amp. The one that the PO had in there is the 101400 which has different features on it. I'll find one that fits even if I have to go to the scrapper and pull the radio, wiring harness, amp.... hell, I'll take the subwoofer while I'm at it! I like the cd changer and steering wheel controls and want to keep it.
