Default $1,920 for...what, precisely? A wiring harness!? Well let me get my checkbook!

Well crap.

My misfire and P0208 came back, so at the suggestion of AK Rover I took a gander at my ECM to see if the connection was loose. Here is what I found.

This was after I unwrapped the electrical tape.

I know Land Rover's are prone to electrical bugs, but come on! Something screams that this isn't standard issue Land Rover wiring at work here.

So I have two options. Try and fix this hack wiring job, the option I can more than likely afford, or replace the wiring harness, the option that I most likely won't be able to afford at the moment, but won't run the risk of an electrical fire.

So those clowns at the garage are either blind, stupid, both, or were trying to hit paydirt. I'm leaning towards the latter. Geez, I noticed the bare copper wire and the electrical tape immediately upon looking at it!

Glad I FINALLY found the problem, I'm cheesed that the garage was trying to pull the money symbols over my eyes, and I'm going to look for a wiring harness.

Wish me luck.

Good Luck! If you know exactly where that wire's supposed to go then I wouldn't be too opposed to re-wiring it yourself. However, as many Discos as there are being parted out you ought to be able to find the harness at a fair price.

Keep us posted.

Go to True Value and buy some good electrical connectors and some Liquid Tape, connect those wires and then fill the ends with the Liquid Tape.
Liquid Tape is a wonderful thing, it has fixed my cruise control! Gooped up the cracked ends of the vacuum lines and BAM!, working cruise.
But yeah, fix those loose wires.

And per your other post, then need to program the new ECU to match the old one, the new one will think it is with a new engine, but you can plug-N-play, the truck may run alittle rough until the new ECU learns the "old" engine.
You are supposed to do this every time you replace/rebuild a engine also.

You are in Ohio, where there are plenty of out of work auto electricians. A simple craigslist ad offering $250 and a 12 pack just might pay dividends. Try having a shop install a new wire harness and your eyes will really pop out of your head!

I'll see about that...there's not much working room in there, so I might take the passenger side seat out...seeing as how I'm not exactly skinny.

That's not a bad idea actually!

Nice to know every now and then I say something useful. Glad you found the problem and good luck fixing it. I personally would enjoy fixing that. I trained in the Air Force as an electronics tech so I still love that kind of stuff. I'd print out the wiring schematic from RAVE and have it there next to you for quick reference as you dive in.

Looking at the wires I'm all confused about what wire colors are going where. It looks like 2 pink wires attached to a black wire and a bare wire. Is that even close? Looking at the RAVE manual trying to match the wires on the diagrams to the wire colors in the picture.

I really appreciate that AK. I didn't delve that far into it. I just unwrapped the wire, saw that it looks kinda jacked up and said the hell with it. I will look closer at it and try to get better pictures tomorrow. But yeah, I'm not sure what they were smoking when they did that, but they did a sh!tty job at it. I'll try and get the connector off, and maybe I can pull the harness through the hole in the firewall and fix it up top...that'd be a **** ton easier.

Anyway, it's 4:43am, I just got back from the restaurant where my cop buddies work special duty, so I'm gonna hit the sack.

PS - Why is it that the last import I had (a 1983 Mercedes 300SD) had bad wiring too? The damn headlights went out in the middle of the darkest part of the back woods of Florida! I had to nurse it home with the flashers! That car had to have been stolen at one point, because the wires underneath that dash were ALL butchered. Got it fixed though. Still a PITA.
